Mobile Application Part (MAP)
Definition
MAP is a member of the Signalling System No. 7 (SS7) suite of protocols used for mobility in cellular telephone networks. MAP uses the Transaction Control Application Part (TCAP) protocol to perform remote procedure calls between network elements such as a Home Location Register (HLR) and Mobile Switching Center (MSC). While originally defined by ITU-T in Q.1051 it is now properly specified by 3GPP (29.002) and 3GPP2 (IS-41).
